Campaigner­s unveil proposal for kids’ cancer home

Plans to move to a purpose built facility are being drawn up by the team leading a community buyout for the stricken cancer home.

And the Post can reveal that architects will begin work “within weeks” on the bold project.

Vacant plots in Prestwick head the wishlist, with sites in the Ayrshire countrysid­e also under considerat­ion.

On the agenda is an expanded service offering breaks to children with a range of illnesses, including cancer, spina bifida and cerebral palsy.

It comes as public and corporate pledges to the “Buy Malcolm Sargent House” bid prepare to break the £ 150,000 barrier.

But it’s understood the committee chasing the house and charity bosses at CLIC Sargent are around £ 1million apart in their valuation of the property.

And that has led to a new build facility becoming the front runner.

Committee spokeswoma­n Maxine Allan said: “Moving to another site has always been our Plan B, but it’s become more of a reality as time has gone on.

“Nobody wants to save the original house more than we do – we all feel that emotional attachment to the building.

“But it’s become very clear that our valuation and that of CLIC Sargent’s are so far apart.

“And even if we did get hold of the building, a lot would have to be spent to bring it up to the standard required for
