Toddler injured in dog bite attack

- Michael Reynolds

A two- year- old girl was rushed to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a dog attack.

The girl was on Troon’s South Beach with her grandmother at around 10am on Saturday morning, heading in the direction of Royal Troon Golf Club.

The family dog was approached by another dog which was off lead, with no owner present or near. The dog which was off its lead then bit the girl on the face.

Her grandmother fought off the animal - described as possibly being a black Labrador cross - and police believe the dog may have sustained injured as the grandmother fought it off.

Police say the dog was groomed and appeared well looked after.

The girl was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow to receive treatment for a serious injury to her face. Medical staff describe her condition as stable.

Constable David Murdoch from Troon Police Office said: “A young girl has been seriously injured by a dog which was off its lead and not the in the presence of any owner.

“I would appeal to anyone who either witnessed the incident or has seen a black dog in the area of Troon beach on Saturday morning to get in contact with police officers.”
