BIKERS RALLY AGAINST THE BULLIES

-

A team of friendly bikers got together to stop bullies in their tracks, riding almost 200 miles for charity.

The first ever ‘ Bikes Against Bullies’ event saw just over 100 bikers turn up to support children and young people, with the Prestwick team setting off from Monkton Lodge.

And the kind bikers managed to raise around £ 300, which will be used to support those helped by the group and to facilitate future events, travelling through Mauchline, Muirkirk, Abington, Moffat for a fuel top up and the whole team met at their final destination, Glen Cafe at St Mary’s Loch in the Scottish Borders.

Organiser Gerry Carrigan told the Post: “Thank you to everyone that came along to support our day. Wwe saw a total of 36 bikes, one quad and three cars from Prestwick and Ayr, Edinburgh brought 17 bikes and one car and the team from around Cumbria and Lancashire arrived across the border with 49 bikes.

“I would like to thank Mo for leading the team as far as Moffat before I took over and to all of the clubs for their input, including the guys from Willie Gee MCC for their help with marshalling and to all the riders that took the time to support us including my own club, Ayrshire Touring Motorcycle Club.

“A huge thanks goes to the Glen Café for their hospitality, we all arrived around 3pm in around 100 vehicles, with around 130 attending the event, the weather was mostly dry with a bit of rain in the Beattock area and it was a bit windy as we neared St. Mary’s Loch but overall we were pretty lucky with the conditions.”

“A short ceremony was conducted at the lochside by Paul Miller from the Christian Motorcycle Association, where flowers were floated in memory of bullying victims who sadly took their own lives.”

“We are already planning our future events for 2017 with at least one family fun day and camping event being planned.”

Bikes Against Bullies UK is a group set up by bikers to create awareness surrounding bullying and offer support to victims and their families.
