New teachers join Auchinleck staff

-

The school are delighted to welcome five student teachers to Auchinleck Academy for their first placement of this year.

They are Mr Keachie - Music, Miss Hunter - Chemistry, Miss Hamilton – Art and Design, Mr McCue – PE and Miss Dempster – Maths. The school hope they enjoy their time there.

At Auchinleck Academy, they believe that studying a modern language can greatly enhance pupils’ career opportunities in later life. Later on in the session they intend to organise a “Languages and Work” day to showcase to the young people the many career opportunities available to those with language skills.

The school are looking for volunteers who use languages in their careers to come and speak to the young people about their experiences of using foreign languages in the workplace.

Anyone, or those who know of anyone, who would be interested in taking part in this event, should contact Robin Ferguson ( Principal Teacher Modern Languages) at auchinleck. academy@ east- ayrshire. gov. uk.

Auchinleck travelled to Doon Academy to take part in the football tournament. They gave a great showing against some tough opposition and gave their all to each game against Doon Academy, Cumnock Academy, St Joseph’s Academy and Kilmarnock Academy.

The next event will be cross country and will take place on September 22.

In rugby, the under16s won 59- 5 at Grange Academy.

The side have progressed to the next round of the U16 Scottish Cup with an impressive win. The boys played into space and used their skills and brains to overcome Grange’s power and brawn.

There were standout performances from Glasgow under- 16 forwards Drummond and Airlie plus new comers to rugby Jordon Beck and Logan Middleton. The boys now face Carrick Academy in the second round.

Carrick Academy beat Auchinleck Academy 3121. With 10 call offs/ players unavailable, it was always going to be a tough game down in Maybole.

The 15 boys who took the field did so with passion. At times they tremendously controlled their aggression and gave Carrick a scare when taking the lead 14- 7. Fitness played its part however with Carrick making changes and bringing on fresh legs.

Credit to all players but the three ‘ newbies’ were outstanding and Andy Houston was by far the stand out performer making important tackle after tackle.

The next match for the U13 and U14 sides is today, Wednesday, against Loudoun Academy at Broomfield with a 4pm kick- off.

There will be a S1 Parents’ evening on Tuesday, October 4. The pupils will be issued with an appointment sheet to allow them to make appointments with all their subject teachers. This is an opportunity for parents to find out how their child is progressing and discuss any concerns. It starts at 5pm.
