Prestwick up for top High Street award
Prestwick’s busy Main Street could win the town a £ 10,000 cash prize as part of a government- backed competition.
The town is in the running for a top prize as part of a nationwide search for Britain’s best high streets.
Prestwick Business Association is among the first 50 applicants for the awards and could win the award in recognition for their tireless work.
Louise Anderson from the business association said: “We have worked extremely hard over the past few years to develop and improve our town.
“The town is now looking bright and cheerful for all of the tourists who visit us all year round.
“Fingers crossed our application will be succesful so Prestwick will get its name recognised as a great place to live, shop and work.”
The competition is now in its third year and highlights work being done to revive and diversify high streets around the country.
Winners will also receive a visit from Google’s Digital Garage on Tour workshop, offering skills training for retailers and small businesses.
High Streets Minister Andrew Percy said: “Last year’s competition was a massive success, helping to showcase the very best high streets across the country with thousands of votes cast and winning high streets reporting an increase in shoppers.”
A shortlist for the awards will be released next month, with winners announced later this year.
