Learning campus is on course
A £ 7million contract for works at the new Garnock Learning Campus has been awarded to SPIE UK.
It follows a competitive tender by the Kier Group.
The 17,000m ² Garnock Community Campus will hold 1200 secondary school, 260 primary school, 45 early years students ( 2- 18 years old) and provide new community facilities including a six- lane, 25m swimming pool and fitness suite.
Among the new features at the site will be an innovative lighting control system to enable building managers to adjust brightness throughout the site.
Located 18 miles from Glasgow, the school is within the catchment area of Kilbirnie, Beith and Dalry, and close to the village of Glengarnock.
And the new Garnock Community Campus, designed by jmarchitects, is set to replace a raft of schools including the existing Garnock Academy, Glengarnock Primary School and Kilbirnie Swimming Pool.
Will Smith, managing director of multi- technical services Scotland at SPIE UK, said: “The collaborative work ethos adopted by Kier and the design team right from the start, has ensured smooth and rapid progression from the design stage through to construction.
“The thought- process followed in creating an open and light learning environment has given all teams the confidence to utilise key elements of the build as features, for instance, the exposed concrete, steel and services.
“All of these add to the architect’s original vision for a contemporary learning environment.”
The project is on target for completion in December this year.
