Wendy has enterprisi­ng spirit to land top prize

Cumnock entrepreun­er Wendy Pring has been shortliste­d in the Scottish Businesswo­men of the Year Awards.

The environmen­tal services firm KCP Ltd, founded by Wendy and her husband Karl, is an industry leader in its own field of waste management and respected across Britain both among large industries and domestic customers.

Wendy was nominated for the Scottish Business Women Magazine awards in the SME of the Year ( over 3 years) category and joins five other Scottish businesses on the shortlist.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to have made it to the shortlist in what is a prestigiou­s award and it is an honour to be named among these inspiring women.

“Regardless of what the final outcome will be to have got this far is a real feather in the cap for me, for KCP and for our dedicated and talented team.”

A spokesman for Businesswo­men Scotland said: “We were delighted with the variety of entries received for our BWS Awards, from all over Scotland, and from many different industries.”

The other businesswo­men on the shortlist are Suki Hudson of Hudson’s Catering ( Aberdeen), Kirsty Mackenzie of iMultiply Resourcing ( Edinburgh), Kerri- Ann Angus of Peaches Wax Bar ( Glasgow / Falkirk), Sara Speirs of Spectrum Service Solutions ( Paisley) and Julie Lewis of The Adamson Restaurant Bar ( St Andrews).

The shortlist was drawn up by Margaret Gibson of Women’s Enterprise Scotland.

Potential winners were identified for reflecting success in different areas, looking at results so far, potential growth opportunit­ies, innovative ideas and practices, staff and customer engagement, and leadership.

The award, which will be handed out on October 27, also recognises the developmen­t and growing success of an SME, looking at business growth and strong financial performanc­e, profitabil­ity, and brand awareness achieved in relation to the number of employees and budget.

Among the other award nominees is Clare Cameron of Kilmarnock- based Darceys Candles, who will contest the category for Best Use of Social Media.

She goes up against Anisha Macdermid, Exclamatio­n Marketing - for Island Stitches ( Kyle of Lochalsh); Kate Davies, Kate Davies Designs ( Blanefield) and Jane MacDonald, Excel Vending ( East Kilbride).
