Young bowlers do Scots proud

Bowling Four of Ayrshire’s brightest young bowlers helped Scotland Under- 17s beat a North of England Under 25 select in the annual Federation Cup at Sighthill BC in Edinburgh.

Team captain Darren Weir, in his last match at this age, had the privilege of lifting the trophy.

Other team members were Blair Davidson ( Blacklands), Ross Copeland ( Crosshill) and Rebecca Houston ( Prestwick).

Prestwick gents kick off their Scottish League campaign on Saturday at home to last year’s Scottish Cup runners- up Galleon at 2pm.

On Sunday, the club hosts a Scottish Disability Sport Coaching Workshop with coaches attending from 11am to 3pm.

The junior section coaching session will take place at 9.30am for one week only.

Adult coaching classes start on Monday and Tuesday. Hockey Halo Ayr Ladies 1st XI lost 2- 1 away to Erskine Stewart Melville 2’ s in Edinburgh.

Ayr started with a strong defence but lost a goal midway through the first half. Shortly after conceding, the attackers fought back, winning two short corners.

The equaliser arrived from the hard work of Kirstie Howat and Sophie Fairhurst, with Claire Parker getting the final touch.

Ayr tried hard in the second half but lost a goal in the last two minutes. Player of the match was Bethany Hamilton.

Halo Ayr Men’s 1st XI kicked off their season with a 4- 3 defeat away to Hillhead.

The hosts took an early lead but Ayr levelled before the break with a strike from Aston Kerr.

Ayr went ahead in the second half with a reverse strike from captain Murray McBride but quickly found themselves trailing after conceding two in quick succession. Late goals from both teams took the score to 4- 3 and despite a frantic last five minutes, Ayr couldn’t rescue a point.

Both Ayr ladies and men’s team now train at Wellington School Pitches ( Doonside) every Tuesday from 7- 9pm.
