These business ladies don’t just do lunch

- Lorraine Howard

The old saying Ladies Who Lunch has been given a new twist by Ayrshire businesswomen. On Wednesday businesswomen from all over Ayrshire attended Women Mean Business at Enterkine House. But while there was a slap up two- course lunch for these ladies there was so much more. You see the Women Mean Business Lunch saw over 40 women meet to talk about ways to improve their businesses.

Guests speakers were from very different backgrounds but both Denise Winton of House of Colour and Thea Newcomb, creator of Soyouvebeendumped.

Thea created a blog and website for people who have been dumped and it now has thousands of users every day.

Denise Winton, a former nurse is now a colour therapist who transforms people by teaching them how to have confidence through colour and style.

Organised by Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce as part of the Ayrshire Business Week, the lunch saw the women spend time networking, sharing ideas on how to take their businesses forward.

Val Russell, Chief Executive of the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce led the proceedings.

“This is a wonderful event that we are proud to include as part of Ayrshire Business Week,” said Val.

“These are all successful business women who come together, network and help each other.”

Sarah Plant, who is the president of the Ayrshire Association of Business Women, was at the lunch.

“I enjoy events like this as it gives you a chance to meet other women who are working as hard as you are,” said Sarah.

“Everyone has something to bring to the table and it’s great to sit down and listen to the speakers who are all success stories in their own right, so many different businesses.

“But it is great to come together and enjoy our lunch and have the chance to share ideas and network.”

Digital account manager for Kilmarnock company Microtech, Hiba Omar loved to network.

“This is one of the best parts of my job,” said Hiba.

“I always try and sit at a table where Idon’t know anyone as it is a great way to meet new people and find out about their businesses.

“It’s a great event and I have loved coming along.”
