Bargain bus travel for crunch at Dumbarton

- Mike Wilson

Ian McCall says Ayr aren’t afraid of anyone in the Championship but concedes Saturday’s trip to Dumbarton takes on huge billing.

And superfan Daniel Bryson, who claims the game is the biggest of the season, is funding cut- price travel of a fiver to let supporters get there in numbers.

A win would take Ayr on to 11 points and the Somerset boss admits that would be a great haul for the first quarter of the season.

McCall said: “That would be a terrific tally considering we lost our first three games while taking time to find our feet.

“We will have played all the teams come Saturday and are not scared of any of them.

“We have won four, drawn two and lost one of our last seven and, ironically, the one we lost was the best we have played.

“Dumbarton is a big game as they are one of the teams we have a target of finishing above.”

Ayr will take a big following with them after kitchen designer Daniel stepped in to subsidise buses from the Campbeltown Bar at 12.45pm. Book seats from 07599 289 517.

Daniel, 23, of Digital Kitchens Factory Outlet, said: “I think this is our biggest game and want to play my part to draw a big Ayr support.

“It’s another £ 5 game following the one against Dunfermline when the club cut admission prices.

“I have travelled on the Travel Club buses for seven years and want to reward loyal fans and attract new ones.”

Ayr go into Saturday on a high following their 1- 0 extra- time win over Falkirk in the IRN- BRU Cup.

McCall said: “All the subs gave us great impetus when they came on and that pleases me.

“I’m particularly thrilled for Mikey Donald who hasn’t had many opportunities.

“Andy O’Connell is an impact sub and deserves his place on the bench. For a big man, he has a great touch and was unfortunate not to score a couple but he did himself the world of good.

“Robbie Crawford also did really well and has been unlucky not to start.”

Paddy Boyle and Jamie Adams sat out the Falkirk game with niggling injuries and will be assessed at training this week.

Jamie Thomas, who was set to start in that game, was a late call- up to the Welsh Under 21 side who beat Armenia 3- 1 on Tuesday evening.

An eight- minute hat- trick from Sean McKenzie and goals from Scott Granger and Andy Johnstone gave Ayr U20s a 5- 4 win over Albion Rovers at Somerset on Monday evening. They head to Stranraer on Monday next week.

Ayr are 13/ 8 to beat Dumbarton who are 31/ 20. McBookie. com make the draw 5/ 2.
