FreshAyr time

-

FreshAyr by name and fresh air by nature.

A cultural project bidding to breathe new life into the Auld Toun is set for blast off.

And organisers say their bold vision could be the future for our ailing High Street.

Next week, the “Happening” kicks off ao ne week festival aimed at regenerating social vitality in Ayr’s forgotten corridors.

An art exhibition in the old Watt Bros building will bring together more than 20 emerging and established talents.

And from there a string of fringe events, including writing and poetry workshops, will take place at venues across the town.

Robert Singer, FreshAyr chairman, said: “We want to prove that the arts can be a catalyst for regeneration and greater social integration.

“The old Watt Bros building will be transformed into our popup contemporary art gallery, performance and workshop space.

“And we’ll have a great Fringe programme of cultural events hosted by the Town Hall, The Newmarket, Wee Windaes and the Smoking Goat.”

It comes as the FreshAyr team was nominated in the Future Town Design competition by Scotland’s Town Partnership.

Laura Waters, of FreshAyr, said: “It is a great opportunity to be shortlisted and we hope that the community can get behind us and vote for the project.

“It’s time we think outside the box of ways to help energise our town centre.”

Online voting takes place until Sunday.
