Turnberry to the White House

New president loves his ‘ baby’

- Stuart Wilson

Turnberry chief Donald Trump secured the keys to the White House on Wednesday after a sensational victory in the US Presidential Election.

The controversial billionaire, who has plunged £ 200million into the Carrick resort, managed to redraw the political map in his battle with Hillary Clinton.

His shock win has been hailed as a “great boost for South Ayrshire” by one councillor, who claimed tourism in the region could now rocket through the roof.

Trump, 70, swept a host of swing states in his march to glory in a result which is being rated the biggest upset in political history.

And Carrick councillor Alec Clark, an independent on South Ayrshire Council, said: “I can speak for both independents on our council when I say this is great news for our area.

“Donald Trump has come over here and done nothing but invest and create new jobs – he has been fantastic for us.

“This is a great boost for South Ayrshire. Everything from the publicity to the tourism impact will be massive.

“The number of people who will want to come here and play his great course, or get their picture taken beside the Turnberry sign, will be huge.

“Who knows, he might have to get a new sign saying President Trump Turnberry.”

Despite a campaign dogged by inflammatory remarks, Trump’s message apparently struck a chord with millions of voters in the States.

And he will now take up residence in the Oval Office, although staff at Turnberry are on standby to welcome the new Commander in Chief.

His only break from campaigning in the last six months was to visit Ayrshire and re- open the hotel and Ailsa Course in July.

It has been revealed that the new President refers to the property as his “baby” and it ranks among his favourite business interests across the world.

Cllr Clark added: “The support Mr Trump receives in this part of the world tells its own story – he has been tremendous for Turnberry.

“I hope we at South Ayrshire Council will be putting forward a motion congratulating the new President on his success.”
