Sparkling success at charity evening

-

A dazzling charity evening saw hundreds of guests celebrate Guy Fawkes night in style at the Brig O’Doon Hotel in Alloway. The annual Hansel ball raised a whopping £ 42,000, with a four course banquet and live entertainment from a group of singing waiters taking everyone by surprise and Scottish rock band, Escapades. The glittering event, which sold over 180 seats has helped raise money for the Symington- based social care provider which offers a range of services for people living with learning difficulties.

Hansel fundraising manager Sheila McLean said: “We were a bit worried that guests would notice that there was something suspicious about their waiters but nobody rumbled them at all.

“The reaction they got from party- goers was just priceless, everyone was genuinely amazed by their performance – they really stole the show.

“It was a terrific evening and we are so touched by the generosity of the people who not only bought tickets for the Ball but supported the raffle and the auction, raising vital funds for the charity.

“Every year the ball just gets better and better and we would like to thank the staff at Brig O’Doon for their hard work, our sponsors Wades Print and Scentsations of Troon alongside our entertainment, it was a great night.”

Anna Young won one of the top prizes on the night - a diamond worth £ 2000 from Kevan Scott Jeweller & Goldsmith.

And taking away another top prize was Margaret Neilson who snapped up a city break for two to Rome.

Other prizes included tickets to see the musical The Commitments and two nights at the Hilton Edinburgh, paintings from artists Ed Slater, Graham McKean, JP McLaughlin and Frank Colclough, two tickets to see Olly Murs donated by QTS, a Lulu Guiness handbag from the Shoe Gallery in Prestwick and overnight stay and spa experience for two at the Lochside Hotel in New Cumnock.
