The Guild Last Monday Mrs Miller opened the meeting with a reading and prayer then introduced Stephanie McLoughlin who spoke about her experience­s working in Nicaragua with Raleigh internatio­nal. Teams of 10 young people worked in poor areas teaching the local people how to create businesses from their skills in crafts and agricultur­e. She said the trip had given her a fresh set of values as the people were content with very little. Anne Young thanked Stephanie on behalf of the Guild. The recent coffee morning raised over £ 200 in aid of Guild projects. The next meeting on November 14 will be a guest night when Kingcase Praise Band will provide the entertainm­ent. All will be welcome. Historical Society The next meet- ing of the society is on Wednesday, November 9, when Charles Dudgeon will speak on Kilwinning Abbey — Myth and Reality. Meetings are held in the Castle Visitor Centre at 7.30pm and visitors are welcome at a small charge. Troon Blackrock Pipe Band are still looking to recruit both pipers and drummers for the band. The band play in Grade 4A in competitio­ns and at various gala days and parades throughout the year. We would welcome some new additions to the ranks, all abilities of player are welcome to come along to our practice nights. If you have previously played in a band and are looking to get back playing again you are the people we are looking for. If you play just now but have never played in a band before we are the band for you. If you are interested but don’t play we could help you learn.
