IT wizard gets £ 77k council job
Australian Alan at the helm
A new IT boss has been appointed at South Ayrshire Council after his predecessor suddenly quit.
Australian Alan O’Neill has landed the £ 77,000 role replacing tech guru Ken Moodie.
Mr Moodie only lasted six months in the role and walked out in September following a clash with director Valerie Andrews.
His replacement will join the County Buildings t a s k f o rc e a s d i g i t a l transformation manager on Monday.
Mr O’Neill has worked in senior roles for major global companies.
He is expected to play a major part in the £ 1.9 million Transform South Ayrshire project, which aims to revolutionise how services are delivered and staff work.
Mr O’Neill said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the council and look forward to working with the team and colleagues to take forward this challenging work programme, which will make a massive difference for our customers, staff and residents.
“As a new South Ayrshire resident myself, I’m also looking forward to getting to know my local community and the wider South Ayrshire area and seeing how the council can make a difference for people in their everyday lives.”
A job advertisement for the two- year contract demanded candidates be able to challenge the status quo.
Reviewing the council’s IT service will be part of his remit.
Va l e r i e A n d re w s, executive director of resources, governance and organisation, said: “Alan is joining the council at a really exciting point in our transformation journey and we look forward to welcoming him into post.
“His skills and experience mean he’ll be able to hit the ground running and work with colleagues from across the Council to continue our work to Transform South Ayrshire.”
