Stu goes from Funny Farm to Grand Hall

He has served his time on the Funny Farm – now top comedian Stu Who is set to thrill fans in Kilmarnock.

The funnyman has almost three decades of experience on the circuit after trading life as a warden in a WYMCA hostel for life on the road as a stand- up.

Stu will perform at the town’s Grand Hall as the second in a new series of regular shows, promoted by Ayrshire comedy group Sidesplitt­ers.

And the comedian, who made his breakthrou­gh alongside Fred MacAulay and Karen Dunbar on STV’s cult Funny Farm series, said that Kilmarnock is a favourite venue.

He said: “I certainly look forward to it. But, to be honest, it’s not really a “new” audience as I’ve played there lots of times and I’ve had some belters of nights in Killie.

“The last time I played at your illustriou­s football club’s social was a hell of a good night, and totally Comedy amazed me how sharp and, literally, on- the- ball the team that attended were – one of the players actually got up and did a cracking, good 10 minute spot in the show, and stormed it.

“I actually ended up doing three different stories about Kilmarnock in my last one- man show at The Glasgow Comedy Festival. “It’s a town I’m very fond of.” Comedy is on its comeback in Kilmarnock, after many years without a regular slot in the town.

Sidesplitt­ers brought former Father Ted man Michael Redmond to the Grand Hall last month, and hope to promote more shows into next year.

And despite appearing before a different comedy audience than he is used to, Stu says he doesn’t worry about the material he will unleash on the crowd.
