Band rocks Barrowlands

-

Stevenston rockers Get Out Strong played their biggest gig yet at one of Glasgow’s most famous venues.

The trio won the STV Children’s appeal music prize and performed at the Barrowlands on Saturday night.

The band are frontman David Barclay, bassist Ross Bell and Graeme Allan on drums.

Drummer Graeme said: “The competition was an STV charity appeal, which we managed to get to the final of after three stages which were held at the Clutha Bar, Glasgow.

“From that final we managed to win one of the prizes, a spot at the Barrowlands on a Saturday night. The three of us are buzzing.

“Obviously we have gone to a lot of gigs in that venue as fans, seeing big inspirational bands and now we are getting to play there ourselves, it’s brilliant.”

The Barrowlands gig was a highlight of the group’s fledgling career - and they say it proves how serious they are about success.

Frontman Graeme added: “We take our music very seriously, even though we are all in work.

“I’m an exhaust engineer at a garage in Kilmarnock, Ross is a car mechanic and David works in a butcher shop.

“We love being in a band, it’s something that just seemed like the right thing to do as we are all massive music fans, so it’s satisfying to be able to play big venues.

“We formed the band about 18 months ago, but have only being playing live gigs for the last year.

“It’s quite nice to see the progression in that year and now we played at such a historic venue.”

The band will perform at Kilmarnock’s Fanny by Gaslight venue next Friday ( November 18).
