A wildlife photographer hailed as “the toughest in the business” by David Attenborough is heading to Ayr.

Scots cameraman Doug Allan will visit the Auld Toun to speak for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society as part of their Inspiring People talks programme, in partnership with Tiso, on Wednesday, November 23.

His footage has been seen in acclaimed series such as Ocean Giants and Human Planet, with scenes shot on the dizzying heights of Mount Everest and close- up shots of killer whales featuring in his work.

Doug has provided us with some of the most memorable wildlife images ever captured, and the opportunity to hear the stories behind the images is not one to be missed.

RSGS chief executive Mike Robinson said: “Even those who may not be familiar with his name will surely be familiar with Doug Allan’s wonderful wildlife footage as one of the world’s leading cameramen.

“This talk is not just a chance to see and hear the stories behind so many of his wonderful images, but also to hear from him about his first- hand experience at the poles and the impact of climate change he has witnessed personally.

“As with all our talks I hope that visitors will leave inspired to learn more and to perhaps make a small change to their own lifestyles, and in turn to the future of our planet.”

With more than 40 years’ experience of the poles, Doug has seen for himself the effects of the change in sea ice cover on mammal populations in both north and south.

What he has witnessed has reinforced his determination and commitment to raise awareness of the global issue through his speeches.

Doug Allan will speak at Ayr Town Hall on Wednesday, November 23 at 7.30pm. All RSGS talks are free to members, students and under 18s, with tickets costing £ 8 for Tiso Outdoor Experience cardholders and £ 10 for non- members/ visitors.

Tickets can be purchased on the door.
