Hammer horror at Burger King
Arrest after five- figure damage at burger bar
A fast food store was smashed to pieces in a hammer attack after an employee went on a whopper of a rampage.
Staff at Burger King in Ayr High Street were forced to dive for cover as the scene of terror unfolded in broad daylight.
A 24- year- old man, believed to be a disgruntled crew member, was arrested a short time later after causing damage worth five figures.
The store had just opened its doors for a new week of trading on Monday.
High- definition display screens, monitors and tills were all targeted during the attack, which took place
during the breakfast service.
Large puncture holes were left in all of the shop’s monitors, used to display menu favourites.
The furious staff member spent minutes hacking at technology behind the counter before making his escape.
A sign for customers on the shop window read: “Due to unforseen circumstances the restaurant will be temporarily closed.
“We apologize for any inconvenience.”
The shop eventually reopened for trading on Tuesday, having lost a full day of takings, and was being forced to operate with menus printed from a computer.
Large patches of black tape were being used to cover the smashed monitors as engineers began work on repairs.
A police spokesman said officers were called to reports of the ongoing attack between 9am- 9.06am.
A suspect was arrested nearby and detained for an appearance at Ayr Sheriff Court.
