Charity drive aids disabled riders

-

Golfing ladies’ fundraising efforts were up to par when they handed over substantial donation to an Ayrshire charity.

Troon Welbeck ladies section were delighted to hand over £ 1650 to the Carrick branch of Riding for the Disabled, which they raised earlier this year.

The club’s Elisabeth Collins said: “As captain of Troon Welbeck Ladies Section I was allowed to nominate the charity for our annual tri am which is played in August.

“As a very small ladies section with 34 members, I was absolutely delighted that we raised the huge amount of £ 1650 for the Carrick Branch of Riding for the Disabled.

“The thing I found incredible, and was so grateful for, was that despite the weather not being kind to us so many local golfers turned out to play, and even those who could not brave it made the effort to come down to donate to the charity. “As a club, we were incredibly grateful.” The money raised will go towards the purchase of a mechanical hoist to assist the children and adults to mount their horse or pony, and a share of the funds will go to assist one of the riders, Bernadette Leslie, in her travel. She has a lot more opportunity to have more tuition but travel costs were becoming a problem, so this will enable her to get around.

Brian Cuthbert, chairman of Carrick Branch of Riding for the Disabled, thanked the Welbeck ladies most sincerely for their very generous donation.
