Scott Hunter, principal teacher of computer science at Kyle Academy, was announced as the winner of the category at the inaugural Scottish Cyber Awards held in front of a sell- out audience of industry professionals at Edinburgh’s Waldorf Astoria.
Working in partnership with Police Scotland he helped to create the Police Scotland Cyber Security badge for S1 pupils. This course raises awareness of cyber crime and Geography and Biology pupils from Auchinleck Academy took part in a residential fieldtrip at the Field Studies Council, Millport.
Pupils all gained excellent knowledge and skills that will be a great benefit to their National Studies. The National 4/ 5 pupils took part in studies including beach profiles, flood defences and identification skills, and gathered data to allow them to complete the assignment element of the course. Both staff and pupils praised the centre for the quality of accommodation and the excellent teaching. The group thanked the Co- op in Mauchline who provided the group with some snacks. Auchinleck Academy travelled up to Easterhouse in Glasgow to take part in the third Scottish Cup group match against St Roch’s High School.
The game was close throughout and was refereed by two of the home teams pupils. With two minutes remaining Rebecca Morrison stepped up and hit a huge shot to put Auchinleck into a 27- 25 lead and that is how it finished. A special mention to Cairn Flaherty and Leah Goudie for their best performances to date, helping to take some of the pressure off captain Rebecca Morrison.
Thursday was the last of the group matches in the Scottish Cup, when Auchinleck travelled up to play Gryffe High School.
As with most of the teams in this year’s competition Gryffe HS team was filled with an array of internationalists and club players.
As always the girls did themselves proud and were resolute in defence throughout. Stand- out performers again were captain Rebecca Morrison and second- top scorer Cairn Flaherty. Although losing the game the girls finished with a 2- 2 record. Auchinleck 62 v Ardrosssan 0 The U14 side advanced to the Conference Final with an impressive 62- 0 win over Ardrossan Academy.
