Orchestra set to wow with fab festive medleys

- Christmas Concert

The Ayrshire Symphony Orchestra Christmas Concert is set to be a festive treat, packed full of popular melodies.

Famous names on the programme at Ayr Town hall include Tchaikovsky and Bizet, as well as the delightfully quirky Clog Dance from Ferdinand Herold, currently featuring in the Quality Street TV advert.

Also on the programme will be a medley of Broadway hits, a Strauss polka, music from Pineapple Poll by Sullivan and a selection of Christmas favourites.

Conductor John L Wilson and leader Kathleen Terras invite school age musicians to bring their instruments and join the orchestra to play carols.

The concert takes place in Ayr Town Hall on Monday, December 12 at 7.30pm.

Tickets - costing £ 12 for upstairs and £ 8 for downstairs - are available on the door, from members of the orchestra or from Draw Write on the Sandgate in Ayr.

Proceeds from the sale of interval refreshments will go to the Kiama Trust breast cancer care centre.

The Orchestra is also presenting a special short concert for toddlers and young children in Ayr Town Hall on Sunday, December 11.

The youngsters will get the chance to hear different sections of the orchestra, learn about the music and play along with sleigh bells.

Doors open at 4pm for a 4.15pm start, and tickets cost £ 3 on the door.
