The big villa with the low price of £ 200,000

- Stephen Houston

Think of Vicarton Street and many knowledgeable folk will tell you it’s in Girvan.

It is the poker- straight entrance to the town and most people will instantly think of the Victorian terraces that flank both sides of the road.

But there is also a rather handsome red sandstone villa boasting five bedrooms and a garden that backs onto the Water of Girvan.

“Shanter Hall” has just come onto the market at offers over £ 200,000. As well as the five bedrooms, it also boasts a study and a large brick outbuilding.

Agents Bruach Property say some modernisation is needed - that’s estate speak for an awful lot of work.

The building out the back is 60 feet long with three roller doors and ideal for a business base.

The plot also includes plenty of parking space on a tarmac area. The bedrooms and public rooms are all traditional size so plenty of room for big furniture. One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor where there is also a loo under the stairs. A vast lounge with feature fireplace and separate dining room flank the front of the house, while a breakfast room leads on to the kitchen.

The breakfast room has an open fire for a toasty time as the frost of winter descends. The kitchen is galley style and is next to a small study area, so there is the prospect to re- configure.

All the bedrooms are doubles and you can chose from a street or a river view.

The front garden is enclosed by a boundary wall with shrub borders and concrete paths. Out back “you will find a beautiful garden” say Bruach. That includes a large lawn with apple trees.
