Ayr race is most loved in Scotland
Open Water Sprint gets the vote
The Ayr Open Water Sprint Triathlon is officially the most enjoyable event in Scotland.
Ayrodynamic Tri Club received the accolade at the Triathlon Scotland AGM and prizegiving at Heriot Watt University.
Over the season, participants rate events all over Scotland, totalling well over 100 and vote on the one they enjoyed the most.
Vice president John Strawhorn has directed the race organisation since the event was first held and the award is a tribute to his leadership.
The Sprint Triathlon is one of five events the Tri Club promotes annually, the others being Ayr Three Castles Duathlon in April, two Aquathons at Prestwick Pool for youngsters in May and September and the Turkey Trot on Boxing Day. Next year a further Sprint Triathlon is planned for a new venue near Irvine.
At the same ceremony, Lorna Todd and Davie Auchie were honoured for multiple success over the past season.
The multi sports athletes of Ayrodynamic won medals at the Ayrshire Cross Country Championships.
Mandy Stewart was third overall in the senior women’s event. She set a new female club record and pb in the last club 5k run time trial.
Davie Auchie kept up his winning streak by taking the men’s over 50 race in 41 minutes for the 9k circuit. Chris Figgins completed the run in 48.49.
U11 girls: 20. Daisy Blair; 22. Holly Allardyce; 23. Teagan Blakey. U11 boys: 13. Kyle Muirhead; 14. Finlay Price; 17. Louis Ralston.
Several members have tried cyclocross racing with Irvine Beach Park hosting the most recent outing.
Scott Russell and Lorna Sloan did well over the mixture of sand and hills with Lorna third female.
Marc Archie made his debut, riding a mountain bike, to find he was the only competitor not on a cyclo cross specific bike.
Nevertheless, he had a good race, but maybe Santa will get a plea for a ‘ proper’ cyclo cross bike.
