United 17s are hit for six as Rangers in hurry at Murray

-

Ayr United 17s were hit for six by Rangers at Murray Park.

It was a busy 90 minutes for keeper Danny Graham who was in action straight from the kick- off with Rangers allowed two free headers in quick succession.

Trailing 3- 0 at the break, Ayr shuffled the pack and Mark McKenzie was unlucky to be flagged offside after a decent move.

Head coach John Crawford reckoned his team afforded far too much time and space to their opponents particularly in the opening half hour.

Crawford said: “You simply can’t allow players of this quality and calibre the time and space to get on the ball and create openings.

“We gave Rangers far too much respect and were made to pay handsomely for it. The second half saw an improvement in our overall game but by then the game had effectively been lost.”

Ayr: Graham, Millarvie, Wardrope, Brown, Tremble, Sisi, Bryce, Thomson, George, McKenzie, Dillon. Subs: McLaughlin, Barker, Love, Oliphant, Mitchell, Skeoch.

United ladies also found the going tough when they lost 7- 0 to Rangers Development.

Squad: Docherty, Frame, Sommers, Basabe- Kerr, Hillhouse, Fitzsimmons, Masterson, Cairns, McIntyre, Barbour, Wake. Subs: Gillespie, Bradley, Hendren, Kerr, Barrie.

The 20s game away to Albion Rovers on Monday was postponed .

On Sunday at 11am, the 16/ 17s face Hibs at their Training Centre.
