Balaclava knife terror on doorstep

-

A middle- aged man has been slashed by a knifeman on his own doorstep.

The shocking attack - on a peaceful Sunday afternoon - has stunned the quiet village of Coylton.

The assailant wore a balaclava before racing off on foot.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the victim was attacked by the hooded suspect.

An “altercation” involving the victim outside the town’s Spar store on Saturday night is being linked to the probe.

The 55- year- old, who was slashed when answering his door at 2.35pm on Sunday, had clashed with the owner of a black Vauxhall Astra just hours earlier.

And police believe that incident, at 6.30pm on Saturday, may have sparked the later attack in Finlayson Way.

The suspect was wearing an army green coloured balaclava during the attack in broad daylight.

He is described as being 5ft 7ins tall, heavy built, wearing a black zip up tracksuit top, faded blue jeans and white trainers.

Following the attack he made off in the direction of Hillhead Road.

Officers are keen to trace the owner of the black Vauxhall Astra, seen the night before, which had a matt paint finish.

It is described as having tinted windows and a loud exhaust.

The victim was driving a silver Mercedes.

DC Bill Stokes, from Ayr CID, said: “One line of enquiry is that these incidents may be linked, however we need anyone with information about either incident to come forward so we can establish whether this is the case.

“We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed an altercation involving the two cars on Saturday evening as well as anyone who may have seen a man matching the above description in the area of Finlayson Way and Hillhead Road on Sunday afternoon.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Ayr CID via 101.

“Or alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
