Ayrshire band eye Paolo slot

Hot gossip from the local music scene

-

Hello folks – I hope you’re all doing well, it is indeed beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

An Ayrshire group are in the running to support Scottish pop star Paolo Nutini at the Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations.

Will and the Wild Horse are in the final eight with a great chance of opening for the Paisley superstar as part of the Hog The Stage competition.

Votes have been flying in on the Edinburgh Hogmanay website and in my opinion the lads really deserve their break. Having played with the boys I was impressed with their passion and they have a talented singer in Wully Smith.

The band said: “We are keen to support Paolo as we fit with his music and could provide an uplifting set before he plays.

“It would be a great opportunity for us. So far in our career we have supported Hurricane No 1 and Dave Sharp of the Alarm and this would be a great step for us.” The two winners will be announced this week. I had a really positive experience last week as a guest at Three Towns Care Home in Stevenston who were holding a celebration for a resident at his nomination at the recent Scottish Care awards.

It wouldn’t have been a party without live music and Gordon McNeill was on hand to perform for residents and staff alike, bringing some real cheer to the party.

As a former nurse himself Gordon has seen the power of music transform the lives of those in care first hand.

It’s been brilliant to see the adoption of the Playlist for Life initiative which involves residents and patients in care and their families compiling a playlist of music which is particularly special for the resident.

The unique power of music to bring nostalgia, familiarity and joy is something to behold and it’s been fantastic to see this initiative, which brings so much happiness, rolled out across the country.

Ayrshire DJ PATON aka Danny Paton has been recognised as one of Scotland’s top DJs in a recent poll. PATON, who produces euphoric house, is a talented multi- instrumentalist who recently worked with top name DJ Jack Eye Jones and enjoys support from top talents including Oliver Heldens, Paul Van Dyk and Leon Bolier. It’s superb to see Danny’s star on the rise and I’m sure we’ll be hearing much more from this top talent.

I hope there are plenty of you who are considering buying a wee musical Christmas present this year.

It doesn’t have to be the most expensive instrument and often you’re probably best buying a starter instrument but if I could recommend anything for a Christmas gift this would be it!

Whether keyboard or drums ( your family will love you), guitar or clarinet, the world is your oyster as there are few things as rewarding as learning how to play an instrument.

Thankfully, Ayrshire has a good selection of shops where you can get your loved one a special something.

Get yourself along to Ayr Guitar, RGM in Kilmarnock, the Music Shop in Irvine or for records Big Sparra Vinyl in Ayr or Rare Trade in Kilwinning. Whatever you do, shop local and support the local guys. Yuletide Greetings, @ LittleFire
