Auchinleck ace is edged out in world bid

Bowling Auchinleck’s Derek Ferguson lost out in the World Under 25 singles and World Mixed Triples at Glasgow.

But it was by the closest of margins after he failed to qualify for the knockout stages on shot difference.

The seniors beat Lanarkshir­e 77- 42 at home. Scores: W McArthur 18, J Keating 13; E Duncan 20, P Jones 6; J Fleming 18, P Smellie 14; S Graham 21, M McParland 9.

The seniors have qualified for knockout stages of the League Cup with their next match against Paisley at Inverclyde on January 21.

The gents lost 80- 62 away to Coatbridge and resume at home to Inverclyde on January 14.

With only one match left, Cumnock BC are winners of the first series in the Baird Bowl. The second series starts on Sunday, January 8 at 11am.

Results: Auchinleck Indoor 6, Sorn 0; Cumnock 4, Glaisnock Valley 2; Mauchline 4, Galston 2. On Sunday, Sorn take on Galston at 11am to 1pm.

Auchinleck’s team in the Top Team Championsh­ip beat East Kilbride by two shots. They lost on singles and triples but with wins by the pairs and fours, held on to win 75- 73. Next game is against Ayr at Galleon on January 22.

Stephanie Wallace failed to make the knockout stages of the SIBA U21 singles, despite playing well as did Steven McAllister in the U18 singles.

On Saturday, there are no team matches for the ladies or gents due to playdowns of the SIBA National Four Bowl Pairs. The ladies play Coatbridge while the gents pair will play Ayr, both at Inverclyde at 2pm.

On Monday, the grand Christmas draw will be held. Thanks to all who donated prizes and bought tickets.

The club will close on Friday, December 23 and re- open on Tuesday, December 27 for gents invitation fours.

Ayr ladies beat Ardrossan 104- 60 to stay second in their section, two points behind unbeaten East Kilbride.

The seniors lost 82- 53 at Allander while the gents lost 91- 59 at Alloa.

This weekend sees the national pairs playdowns when the gents play Auchinleck at Inverclyde.

The gents’ Christmas meal is on Wednesday, December 21.
