Hanging heads in shame
South Ayrshire Council should hang their heads in shame.
At a recent meeting an SNP motion to support the WASPI and to protest against unfair pension changes was rebuffed.
Instead of supporting the motion as the majority of councils have done Bill McIntosh and his cronies persisted with their SNP bad mentality and continued their political posturing by declining to support the motion, instead recommended writing to the Scottish Government to complain about the local government settlement.
This shows how ignorant they are about responsibility.
Pensions are a devolved matter and nothing to do with the Scottish government.
They lost a prime opportunity to show magnanimous support for the women of Ayrshire and Scotland.
A bunch of wasters accountable to no one, who relish their parochial power and are devastating the whole of South Ayrshire by their Little Britain attitude.
The only thing they look forward to is their next photo opportunity. Service ( RVO): the magnificent sum of £ 386 was raised.
May I take this opportunity to wish all your readers and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Peaceful New Year. increase the tax for rich people in Band E and upwards.
This prompted me to go into the council’s website and do a print of the banding every house was sitting on, in Bentfield Drive, I was shocked to discover houses similar to my own and even some larger houses were in a lower banding.
I wrote to the assessors’ department, asking them to give consideration to my appealregarding the banding my house was on.
Their reply to my letter stated my banding was valid and that the law states you may appeal if you wish to, within six months of purchasing your house. This was news to me because no one, either the council or my solicitor on purchasing my house, made this law known to me.
I pursued my case and even went before the Ayrshire Valuation Appeal Panel, but the end verdict was my banding is valid and legally I was too late with my appeal.
I recently had an appointment with John Scott MSP regarding this six month law and told him my meeting with him was not only for myself, but on behalf of thousands of people who, like myself, were never given the knowledge of this six month law.
I also asked Mr Scott to approach Nicola Sturgeon and ask her where she got her figures from regarding the rich people sitting in Band E properties, because I certainly don’t come into that category.
My council tax is only a few pounds short of £ 2000 a year, and this is approximately one- seventh of my yearly income. I am a widowed pensioner and because I still have a son living at home, I don’t qualify for the 25 per cent discount.
These forthcoming increases will cause financial worry not only to myself but to many people in a similar situation.
May I conclude by saying Mr Lewis is correct in that a revaluation of properties is long overdue as the present set- up is grossly unjust.
