Voice of Reason
Shooting from the lip
Palmed Off
Bogey teams. Everyone has a snotter.
And this Hogmanay, Ayr United travel to one such nemesis.
Stats gurus tell us it’s been seven defeats in a row at Palmerston for the Honest Men. Who even knew? Not the kind of record to fill us with confidence ahead of Saturday.
But if there’s one thing about records, they are there to be broken.
Fiver a head travel once again with the River Cottage supporters, which should ensure a great atmosphere in the away end.
Festive fixtures boast that extra little to the occasion.
Let’s travel in numbers.
Moore Merrier
It surely warmed the cockles to see young Craig Moore back at Somerset on Saturday.
Would be easy to overplay the impact his injury has had on our season.
But one look at our goals tally ( Saturday aside) should tell its own story.
Vital to his return, though, will be keeping expectations realistic.
As good as he is, just having him on the field in one piece is a bonus to us at the moment.
Another one beside him would be lovely.
Tough Times
It can be a tough enough slog in junior land.
So thoughts with the team at Maybole Juniors, who are picking up the pieces after fires were lit at their ground over Christmas.
Best wishes to Carlo Walker, Alex Meek and the team at Ladywell.
New Year Cheer
What better way to bring in the New Year than a date with Ayr Racecourse?
My good friend Iain Ferguson already has his eyes firmly fixed on the January 2 meeting.
Hopefully a few winners can be backed to start 2017 in grand style.
Looking for Fergie to lead the way with some top paddock tips.
Thistle Cracker
Big Nino Pajovic told us so.
And Thistlecrack – potentially the greatest national hunt beast ever to grace the planet – truly delivered.
Boxing Day presents all round in the Super Serb’s household.
Unfortunately, Ryan Stevenson denied the VoR’s super single on Ayr.
To this week and Nino predicts a 1- 1 draw between Rangers and Celtic.
Bookie Dave can’t see past Morton and Liverpool for an 11/ 2 double.
The VoR goes for a super single with Queen’s Park at 7/ 5 to beat struggling Stranraer.
Happy punting everyone.
