All quiet on western front as Donald Trump becomes America’s President
Sarah Jane McDonald With protest on a global scale, you’d have thought his Scottish pride and joy would have seen at least something.
Yet all Donald Trump’s staff at the Turnberry resort faced was a rather cold and damp day on Friday.
Police were keeping an eye on the situation and a member of staff was assigned gate duty, with the company LandRover Defender placed strategically at the entrance.
The only person outside Turnberry at the time Donald Trump was sworn in as 45th US President, was myself.
Last June the billionaire was greeted by a mob of demonstrators as he touched down to relaunch his luxury Ayrshire resort following a £ 200 million refurbishment.
The complete absence of protest is seen as huge support for what the President is doing for this area.
A spokesperson at Trump Turnberry told the Post security measures had been taken and refused to comment on the hotel marking the historic occasion.
Meanwhile the action was at Prestwick Cross where FIVE protestors, including organiser Karen Weatherston, made a stand.
The town does at least have a link with him, as European base for his Trump airline and he has been on Prestwick tarmac a number of times.
