Free design project for young folk

-

Following its succesful opening, the I Am Here exhibition at Kilmarnock’s Dick Institute is set to launch an exciting engagement project.

Arranged by East Ayrshire Leisure and the National Museum of Scotland the free project will run alongside the exhibition on Thursday nights from February until the end of April, between 4pm and 6pm.

I Am Here is a Crafts Council touring exhibition of portable art, wearable objects and jewellery since the 1970s featuring 98 pieces of studio jewellery by the most significant European makers from the last five decades.

The 10 week project is open to the public, and designed for young people aged 16- 25 with a strong interest in design, craft and art.

The group will visit the National Museum of Scotland’s new Art and Design galleries and then attend workshops at the Dick Institute, where they will work with practicing jewllery design collective O- Pin.

Focusing on alternative materials such as plastics, wood and paper, participants will be guided through the design process which will result in a final piece of jewellery or sculpture personal to them, showcased at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
