Auchinleck pips Prestwick to land mixed pairs title Annual dinner forVics

Claire Johnston was crowned world mixed pairs champion for the first time on Tuesday.

The Auchinleck Indoor star teamed up with world No 1 Nicky Brett ( England) to win the title at Potters holiday resort.

There was disappoint­ment for Prestwick’s Paul Foster who was pipped in his bid for a third title.

Johnston and Brett won the first set 7- 6. But Foster and partner Rebecca Field ( England) bounced back to take the second set 9- 7.

That took the final into a decider where Johnston and Brett won 2- 1.

Claire bowed out of the women’s World Match play championsh­ip on Saturday, losing to reigning champion Ellen Falkner by 1 ½ - ½ on sets.

Auchinleck seniors lost 70- 56 to Paisley at Inverclyde in the quarter- finals of the the senior league cup.

The gents lost by 31 shots away to East Kilbride in their second last league match.

The ladies will play Whiteinch at East Kilbride on Saturday in the League Cup semi final at East Kilbride.

They beat Blantyre 104- 56 at home to overhaul the former leaders who they trailed by a point.

Auchinleck lost 6- 2 to Ayr in the Team championsh­ip playdowns at Galleon.

On Saturday, the gents play their last league match at home to Cumbernaul­d.

On Sunday, Auchinleck hosts a team championsh­ip game from 2- 6pm.

Prestwick gents suffered another defeat on the road when they lost 7972 to Allander despite wins for the rinks skipped by Darren and Andrew Weir.

On Saturday, the team face a tough task at home to table toppers West of Scotland.

The ladies lost 97- 58 at home to Galleon in their last league fixture of the campaign.

Prestwick now focus on the Scottish Cup where they take on Ardrossan at the Galleon on Saturday, February 18.

The Mixed Team Championsh­ip started on Sunday with Prestwick against Galleon at Ayr. Darren Weir was beaten 21- 20 in the singles by John McCabe, with Alex Thomson and Wilma Ogilvie losing 17- 13 in the pairs.

Galleon recorded big scores in the triples and fours to secure them a place in the next round, winning 8- 0.

The juniors started their defence of the SYIBA Top 10 at Blantyre on Sunday with a lot of new faces from last year’s winning side.

Rebecca Houston hit back from 16- 7 down to win the singles 21- 16. Rachel Houston and Ross Gouldstone won 20- 7 in the pairs to put Prestwick in the driving seat.

Jordan Law skipped his trio of Kirsty Noon and Lewis Brown to a 20- 6 win while Sandy Fisher, Emily Houston, Jamie Noon and Adam Sturgeon completed an 8- 0 victory for the defending champions with a 15- 7 win.

This puts them into the quarter final against either face Alloa or Bainfield at home with the winners gaining a place at finals day at Falkirk Indoor on Sunday, March 19.

This weekend, Stuart Reid travels to Hayling Island in the Scotland team to compete in the Over 50s Home Internatio­nals.

Stuart will be joined by Colin Smith ( Ayr) as part of the eight man team.
