Opticians to help with hearing loss

-

An Irvine opticians is taking action to support a charity which provides a vital audiology service on a Scottish island.

Specsavers in the Rivergate Shopping Centre is hosting a fundraising event in Brodick to raise money for Action on Hearing Loss – an organisation which offers a hearing aid repair service on Arran.

Volunteers from the charity carry out minor repairs on hearing aids for island residents, which saves them a four- hour round trip to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock.

Specsavers staff read a story in the local paper about the service requiring £ 2,000 to run every year – and they decided to take steps to raise this amount to ensure that it can continue.

Store director Gill Syme says: ‘ When we read the article, we felt strongly that we should support the charity.

‘ Many of the hearing aid users on Arran will be older ladies and gentlemen who may find it difficult to travel far in bad weather, so this service is vital, especially in the winter months.

‘ The volunteers do a fantastic job and we want to raise as much money as we can for the cause.’

The fundraising event will take place at Little Rock on Friday 3 February, from 7pm. Tickets cost £ 5.

Staff from Specsavers Irvine will be on hand to speak about the hearcare service in store for more information, contact Specsavers Irvine on 01294 313353.
