Dip With A Nip makes a splash

New date set for # BUYMSH event

- Stuart Wilson

Fundraisers are to make a splash by braving the sea in aid of a new cause.

Hundreds of charity dippers will dive into the water at Prestwick next month in aid of the BUYMSH appeal.

Organisers are resurrecting the event, which for more than a decade was a cornerstone of the Malcolm Sargent House.

The event, which had to be scrapped on Boxing Day, now moves to Sunday, February 19.

Top Ayrshire businesses such as QTS and The McKinstry Company are to enter teams in the event, which will draw participants from far and wide.

BUYMSH is bidding to build a new house for children with life- altering illnesses.

It follows CLIC Sargent’s controversial closure of the Malcolm Sargent base last year as part of a cost- cutting drive.

Maxi ne Allan, of BUYMSH, said: “We’re very excited to have the Dip back, as for years it has proven such a popular event within the community.

“Unfortunately we had to cancel on Boxing Day due to circumstances outwith our control, so we were determined to have this new date in place.”

This year’s event will be held in honour of Ayr girl Tilly Sharkey, who passed away last year after a brave battle with a brain tumour.

Registration forms can be obtained by emailing buymsh@ gmail. com.

Those taking part should sign up on the day at Prestwick’s RAFA Club from 1pm, with a 2pm start time.

Domino’s Pizza will lay on free food while Grant’s will provide free bananas.
