Bookies offer odds on Trump teeing off

-

Donald Trump could be set for a round of golf at Turnberry as part of his upcoming state visit, bookies predict.

The new US President is due in Britain later in the year – and is being tipped to head north as part of his itinerary.

Scots betting firm McBookie is offering 10/ 1 about Trump teeing it up on the Ailsa links while here to visit the Queen.

Spokesman Paul Petrie said: “State visits tend to be only three or four days long and there will be a lot to pack in in that time.

“Obviously, his priority will be meeting the Queen, perhaps addressing the Parliament at Westminster and spending time with Prime Minister Theresa May.

“But nobody doubts that Trump is genuinely inspired by his Scottish roots so if there is the opportunity, I’m sure he’d love to squeeze in a trip north of the border.

“And if he does, the temptation to play a few holes will be gnawing away at him.

“He may be unpredictable but given a choice between Turnberry and another meeting, I think we all know which he’d pick.”

Trump has ploughed £ 250million into the renovation of Turnberry since purchasing the Carrick resort in 2014.

And his only break from last year’s Presidential campaign came when he flew in to re- open the Ailsa course and hotel.
