Airport A great new look for 2017
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is shaping up for the summer – and getting a makeover!
In order to look its best, your local airport is currently undergoing a significant number of improvement works to ensure that customers receive the best possible travel experience.
There will be upgrades made to the car park, its bars, railway station, and departure lounge facilities.
The Elvis themed bar is being revamped, and we guarantee you’ll love the new look.
Now painted in a bright light grey, and the seating reupholstered in brown, you can enjoy a pre- flight meal in a contemporary setting.
From there, you can make use of the new boarding arrangements for passengers. Additional lanes create a better layout and will mean a smoother, and more comfortable boarding process.
But before you head through security, visit the new attractive restrooms, which are especially great if you’re travelling with tots.
There will now be family changing rooms and two nursing areas with one each for both males and females - so if you’re a dad heading off with children in tow, you’ll have somewhere to feel comfortable.
The family friendly amenities will also see an increase in disabled access. And a new vanity area with a full- length mirror area will ensure you’re feeling fresh before you fly off on holiday.
The new toilets come equipped with automatic, handsfree fixtures to improve cleanliness and sanitation.
But it’s not just inside the terminal building you’ll notice significant changes – with brand new lifts and escalators in the railway station, travelling will be made easier.
Both lifts will undergo a complete transformation, with them being fully replaced before the summer months.
These will have a 50 per cent greater capacity, making them suitable for larger wheelchairs, mobility scooters – and families with their larger luggage! The escalators will see the replacement of many of the moving parts and the step edges will be painted yellow.
This was a request made during a recent visit by some visually impaired members of the public as it helps them to tell the difference between levels.
These works will also be ready ahead of the summer flight schedule.
If you’d rather drive to the airport, there will be a new range of product offerings – including a premium drop off and parking option that enables passengers to get as close as possible to the terminal entrance.
The wider range of products will offer passengers more choice.
Along with an upgrade to the layout, modern barrier systems – with automatic number plate recognition system - are being implemented.
And with a new and easier booking website, sorting out your holiday car parking will be much simpler - and you’ll be able to get great deals by booking directly.
Ron Smith, Chief Executive Officer, said: “I am delighted to see these upgrades go ahead. We are continually looking to improve our business and the services that we provide.
“Investments like these will enable us to become more efficient and effective - thereby ensuring all who travel through our airport have a smooth, enjoyable and memorable experience.”
