Coffee morning Troon Friends of the Ayrshire Hospice are holding a coffee morning in Troon Old Parish Church hall on Saturday, February 18, from 10am- noon. Entry costs £ 2. Troon Arthritis Group The group meets in St Meddan’s Church Hall at 2pm on Wednesday, February 22. The guest speaker is Lesley Sehli. Tea is served at the close of the meeting. Music Brothers Paul and Razvan Luculescu are giving a vibraphone and piano recital in Portland Church on Sunday, February 19, at 3pm. The recital will include music by Brahms, Rimsky- Korsakov, Sejourne, Piazzolla and Villa- Lobos. Entry costs £ 5 with refreshmen­ts. Writing Troon Writers Group meet fortnightl­y in Troon Library on Thursday afternoons from 4.306.45pm. They enjoy sharing ideas, knowledge of publishing and general networking and support. Contact library staff on 315352. Flowers The next meeting of Troon Flower Club will be held in the Walker Hall on Wednesday, February 22, at 7.30pm. The demonstrat­or is Hettie Redwood from Linlithgow and her title for the evening is ‘ The Wonder of Flowers’. Visitors and new members are welcome. Nursery Meadowgree­n Early Learning and Childcare Centre registrati­on will take place on Monday and Wednesday, February 20 and 22, from 9.30- 10.30am and from 1- 2pm. Registrati­on takes place at 141 Deveron Road. Parents must take each child’s birth certificat­e and a council tax payment form or utility bill as proof of residence. Family history The next meeting will take place on February 16 at 7.30pm in Portland Church. The club will welcome Jim Hood, whose talk is entitled ‘ A Tale of an Aircraft Carrier’. Visitors are welcome and there will be tea/ coffee and biscuits afterwards. Babies Creation Station is held every Thursday morning in St Meddan’s Church Hall. Computers Computing for the Terrified’s free classes are held in Marr Education Resources Centre. Volunteers needed Troon Lifeboat Station are recruiting a volunteer operations team. Ayrshire Hospice Shop Troon Crafters meet in the Ayrshire Hospice Shop on Monday morning from 11am to 1pm. If you can craft and like a good natter please come along and enjoy making new friends. There are secret crafters in the town who donate wonderful items to the shop. Concert A fiddlers’ concert featuring The Tourie Band with compere Jim McColl MBE and the 1st Troon BB Health Metafit classes take place in St Meddan’s Church Hall on Thursday night at 7.30pm with Body Blitz at 8pm. Tale a kettlebell or reserve one on Facebook. Cost is £ 3.50 per class or £ 5 for two consecutiv­e classes. Over- 60s Dalmelling­ton Community Associatio­n run a weekly over- 60s group in the community centre every Friday afternoon. They are looking for volunteers to serve refreshmen­ts, play games and interact with this group. They do not expect volunteers to attend every Friday. Entertainm­ent A pub quiz Play Your Cards Right will be held on Saturday, March 4, at 7.30pm for 8pm in the Eglinton Hotel, to raise funds for Dalmelling­ton Community Centre. It is £ 2 entry per person ( maximum six people per quiz team), with a £ 60 prize for winners. There will be a buffet and disco/ karaoke till late. A spokesman said: “Come along and have a great evening and support your local community centre.” • Sharon Rowan 01292 551940 Community vote A public vote was held in the Games Hall from 11am2pm to allow the local people to vote on what were the best projects for the benefit of the Village. Over 200 residents turned up for the vote and many of the organisati­ons received monetary gains, which will benefit the village. New school On Thursday, March 2, at 10am, there will be topping out ceremony at Muirkirk Primary School. This has been organised by East Ayrshire Council. It is hoped that the school will be finished for the beginning of the new school session in August. Dumping Last week it was reported that a large quantity of tyres were dumped at the site in Furnace Road – there were at least 60 to 80 tyres in the area. The police have been informed and it appears that someone has tried to set the tyres on fire. Anyone with informatio­n should call 101, as this is not the first time that rubbish has been dumped there. Closures This week there was a meeting with East Ayrshire Council to try and persuade them to keep the games hall, astra turf beside the games hall and and library open.
