County girls help Scots to SIBA title

Auchinleck ladies play their first game in SIBA Ladies Knockout Cup at Ayr v East Kilbride.

On Sunday, AIBA Championsh­ip playdowns will be held in Auchinleck, Prestwick, Galleon and Ardrossan. Prelims 9.30am to 12.30pm, semi finals 1- 4pm. AUCHINLECK HOST Ladies singles: prelim Prestwick v Ayr, semi finals, winner of prelim v Ardrossan and Auchinleck v Galleon. Maureen Shimmons represents Auchinleck.

Ladies fours: prelim Ardrossan v Ayr, semi finals winner of prelim v Prestwick and Auchinleck v Galleon. Joyce Corbett, Molly Sunter, Kathy McGee and Agnes Johnstone represent Auchinleck.

Gents triples: prelim Ardrossan v Ayr, semi finals winner v Auchinleck and Prestwick v Galleon. Garry Johnstone, Craig Johnston and Alex Fleming will play for Auchinleck. ARDROSSAN Senior singles: Simon Moor will play Ardrossan or Galleon at 1pm.

Senior triples: John Nairn, Willie McArthur and Gus McAughtrie play Ardrossan or Prestwick at 1pm.

Senior fours: E Duncan, J McCracken, H Archibald and David Weir play Prestwick at 1pm. PRESTWICK Les Fowler plays gents senior singles v Galleon or Ayr at 1pm. Jean Sykes and Heather Kay play Prestwick at 1pm in ladies pairs. Jim Sloan and Jim McPheators play Prestwick at 1pm in gents senior pairs. GALLEON Derek Ferguson and Derek Smith play Ayr in gents pairs at 1pm.

Stephanie Wallace, Liz Hume and Hannah Smith will play Ardrossan or Prestwick in Ladies triples 1pm.

Ross Elliot, John Wylie, Paul Craig and Derek McClue play Ardrossan or Prestwick in gents fours.

All semi final winners will play in finals day at Ardrossan on Sunday, March 19.

Auchinleck’s Fraser Young has been selected for SIBA U18 trial at Abbeyview on Sunday, February 26.

Prestwick seniors got the Scottish Cup off to a winning start, beating Paisley 8- 2 at Blantyre. On Wednesday, the team faced East Kilbride at Auchinleck in the semis.

On Saturday, the seniors face Ardrossan at Auchinleck.

The gents travel to Glasgow in their penultimat­e game but with promotion out of the question.

On Friday night, the club hosts the annual race night from 7.30pm.

Ayr drop into Division One next season after losing 94- 70 in a play- off to Elgin at Arbroath. Ayr progressed to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup with a 6- 4 win over Whiteinch at Galleon. They now meet Cowal.

Prestwick Howie host their monthly Wappenshaw on Saturday with an 11am start at the Indoor. Call 01292 471454 or add your name to the sheet in the stadium.

David Irving of Hawkhill has been elected president of Ayr Trophies Bowling Committee. Douglas Wyllie was re- appointed secretary at the AGM.
