New start for Tarbolton

- Michael Reynolds

The doors swung open on the brand new Tarbolton Community Campus this week.

Primary school pupils enjoyed their first lessons in the new £ 8.2 million building on Friday, while head teacher Jackie Blair led a guided tour through the new building.

She said: “It’s an exciting time for staff, parents and children alike, all of whom have been looking forward to their first day in their new home.

“And here we are, with lessons underway and the school buzzing with this amazing new building that will allow us to do so much more than we had space for before.”

The new school has places for 297 primary children and 40 at the early years and nursery, as well as a whole host of community spaces including a new library, sports halls and meeting rooms.

South Ayrshire Council’s education chief Margaret Toner said: “This fantastic new facility will bring improvements not just for the way education is delivered, but for the whole community.

“With a purpose- built, modern space children can now learn in the best possible environment, while the library, leisure facilities and other community spaces also allow the widest public access and use of the facilities.

“This project is part of a much wider period of investment across South Ayrshire and I‘ m confident that people will be impressed by the quality of this eye- catching asset once they come and see it for themselves.”

As well as providing new, wide- open spaces for children in the village to learn, building firm Morrison Construction boasted that the project created 17 new jobs and supported 17 apprentices as well as raising more than £ 5000 for good causes.

The school is part of an ongoing £ 94 million investment in schools by South Ayrshire.
