Having a say on spending
Finance chiefs at South Ayrshire Council expect to shell out about £ 192m over the next financial year.
Most of the cash will be spent on staff - costing the taxpayer about £ 128.7 million.
School employees are predicted to cost about £ 71 million.
And more than £ 68.7 million is to be spent on the local Health and Social Care Partnership.
The figures were revealed in the budget presented at County Buildings in Ayr on Thursday - and were voted through by the majority of councillors.
All the councillors apart from Wales- based Kyle councillor Hywel Davies were present - with many keen to have their say.
Overseeing the action, Provost Helen Moonie had her work cut out trying to control excitable politicians who wouldn’t obey the behavioural rules‘ standing orders.
Councillor Alec Oattes ( SNP) acccused opposition councillors of shedding ‘ crocodile tears’ over those living in poverty.
But Provost Moonie interrupted him to point out he wasn’t following acceptable council chambers decorum.
Councillor Oattes accused her of cutting him off excessively.
He blasted: “It is absolutely outrageous. I am surprised and disappointed in you, Provost.”
A voice among his fellow elected members piped up: “Careful, Alec.”
But fellow SNP Councillor Ian Cochrane weighed in to defend him.
He told Provost Moonie she had butted in a “number of times.”
She quipped: “I am not aware this council is not being run under standing orders.”
