New village school is really shaping up

-

Excited children, staff and invited guests marked a key milestone in the construction of the new Muirkirk Primary School.

A topping out ceremony was held at the new Early Childhood Centre and community facility.

The event was held last week to celebrate the completion of the roof on the new building.

Construction work by Ashleigh began on the single storey building last August, with work due to be completed this summer.

The finished project will feature the brand new primary school, an early childhood centre and community facilities, complete with a community garden and play areas for the children.

The building has been designed to be extremely energy efficient, and has an ‘ A’ energy rating.

The school and community have been involved throughout the project, with local people being employed on the construction works and the school children being asked to design parts of the early childhood centre’s external play area.

Leader of East Ayrshire Council, Councillor Douglas Reid, said: “I’m very pleased with the excellent progress on this new building, which will provide a state of the art learning environment for our pupils in Muirkirk and purpose built facilities for the community to use.

“The planning that goes into a project like this is immense and very detailed, and it has been very satisfying to watch this building, and our other new schools, rise out of the ground over the last few years.

“It’s an exciting time for the children and young people, staff and the community and I know they all can’t wait to get into their new building after the summer holidays.”
