- Auchinleck Academy

Ski trip – A party of 20 pupils and three staff ahave returned from a five- day trip to Pila in Italy. After a snowy first day on the slopes they enjoyed sunshine and near- perfect skiing conditions for the rest of their stay. By the end of the week the beginners were all making great progress and attempting some difficult red runs. The intermediates were showing lovely parallel turns on long runs and had enjoyed the views of Mount Blanc from the top of the mountain. The advanced group had skied every run on the mountain, including some tricky blacks, and practiced their carving technique. In the evenings the pupils took part in a variety of activities including a disco, tenpin bowling and a pizza night. Design – S2 and S3 creative design pupils took a trip visit the Barony A frame. The intention was to take photographs of the A frame and surrounding area, which will also be used as part of the overall creative design printing project. The standard of the photographs was extremely high and these will be available to view at the art and design department’s first photography exhibition, opening on Wednesday, March 22. Drawing – Art and design pupils have sent in their entries for the third annual John Byrne national drawing competition. Young musicians – The school will hold their third young musician of the year competition on March 28. There will be performances from the 12 finalists as well as entertainment from the junior and senior choirs and the Auchinleck and Cumnock Senior Concert Band.
