McCALL DOUBLES UP FOR SAFETY

Strike duo to take on Bairns

- Mike Wilson

Ian McCall vows Ayr will go for goals as they try to power up their Championship survival bid on Saturday.

Farid El Alagui and Craig Moore are set to form a twoman strike force to shoot down second top Falkirk who are unbeaten this year.

And injury victims Declan McDaid, Robbie Crawford and Ross Docherty have thrown off knocks and are in the frame.

Paul Cairney faces up to six weeks out with knee damage while Jamie Adams and Peter Murphy are still sidelined along with Scott McKenna who begins a two game ban.

With 10 games to go, Ayr are locked in a five- way fight for safety but still have destiny in their own hands.

Boss McCall said: “We’ve been the better team twice at the Falkirk Stadium this season but they were better than us when they won here in the league.

“If Hibs lose to Dundee United on Friday, Falkirk will be thinking that winning the league is not out of the question.

“Falkirk are doing really well but we won our last home game and hopefully have garnered some confidence from the last two matches.

“I’ll go with the boys who are showing desire and heart and I think we’ve got to go with two strikers.

“Farid was ineligible against Hibs so he comes back — he was excellent in the second half against Raith.

“I want to give him and Craig Moore an extended run together.

“McDaid can play wide or through the middle but the team will depend on the personnel available.”

Looking back at the 3- 1 defeat to Hibs at Easter Road, McCall claimed the stonewall red card for McKenna, after a crude challenge on John McGinn, killed them.

He said: “If we had got to half- time with 11 against 11, the crowd could have become restless.

“It could have been game on with a depleted squad as our fans were right behind us but the red card deadened us.

“We were terrific in the second- half and defended manfully but it was very hard to create with 10 men.”

McCall watched Ayr Under 20s draw 2- 2 Morton at Cappielow on Tuesday evening when goals came from Sean McKenzie and Jack Sherrie.

Ayr are 13/ 5 to beat Falkirk who are even money favourites with McBookie. com who go 5/ 2 the draw.
