County trio take Isles triples title

A trio of players from Auchinleck steered Scotland to retain the triples in the BIWBC Internatio­nal Series in Belfast.

Victorious Claire Johnston, Hannah Smith and Heather Kay, along with team manager Jean Sykes, were triumphant on Sunday when Scotland won all three matches to retain the triples.

On Monday Heather, Claire, Hannah and Stacey Wylie lost 17- 15 to the Channel Islands in the semi- finals of the British Isles fours.

Paul Foster will try to help Scotland win the Home Internatio­nal Series in Belfast this weekend. The Prestwick player, who faced Martin Spencer ( England) in the final of the British Isles singles on Wednesday, skips the rink of Jason Banks ( Garioch), Calum Logan ( West Lothian) and Neil Speirs ( West Lothian).

Prestwick’s Rebecca Houston and Ross Gouldstone travelled to Aberdeen on Sunday for the SYIBA Pairs finals. Competing in a section of six, they could manage only wins against West of Scotland and Abbeyview but lost to Elgin, Inverclyde and eventual winners Alloa.

Auchinleck’s Fraser Young, Sophie Reid and George Robertson won two matches, drew one and lost two in the SYIBA national triples.

On Saturday Auchinleck ladies travel to Inverclyde to play Paisley in the quarterfin­al of SIBA ladies knockout cup.

Rink 1: E Reid, T Moore, M Sunter, J Williamson; Rink 2: L Hume, M Bingham, C Cowie, H Kay; Rink 3: S Wallace, B Mackin, I McKnight, M Shimmons; Rink 4: S Robertson, H Smith, J Sykes, C Johnston.

Baird Bowl: Glaisnock Valley 6, Sorn 0. The outstandin­g Cumnock v Auchinleck tie will determine the winning team for the second series. with Cumnock have already won the first.

Prestwick holds its annual 60s night on Saturday, March 25, with music from the Modernists. Tickets, price £ 10, include a buffet.

A bingo night follows on Friday, March 31 at 7.30pm.
