Make- up ain’t such a drag

-

Award winning makeup whizz Nathalie Girvan has created a head turning look fit for a queen, writes Sarah Hilley.

The student from Ayr has snatched a prize for top Glamour Drag Queen at a national competition.

And with luscious lashes, contoured cheeks and exotic eyes her male model could easily strut on the catwalks of Milan.

He is a fellow student of hers – aptly named Marc McQueen.

Nathalie said turning a gent into a glamorous lady was no mean feat but, man, he looked all woman.

She said: “Getting a man to sit still for an hour was very difficult. Boy face shapes are completely different. I had to glue down his eyebrows and draw different ones, shave his legs, colour in eyelids and contour his cheeks.

“I had to make him look like a lady. When I had finished I was shocked at how well he looked. I couldn’t believe it. He was 6 ft 8 with heels on.”

The towering blonde vision of glamour also impressed the judges who gave her first prize at the AHT competition in Blackpool – not to mention her subject Marc from Kilmarnock. Nathalie, 20, said: “I don’t think he had much faith but when he saw it come together, he was gobsmacked.”

The Ayrshire College student who is studying a HNC in makeup artistry only got the chance to practice the drag makeup twice before the final.

Describing her reaction to the triumph, the Studio by Dermalounge worker in Prestwick, said: “I was proud. I entered the competition last year and never even got through. The competition was amazing.

“I had never experienced anything like that atmosphere before. I was so nervous. I didn’t know how big a deal it was. There were people competing from all over the UK.”

She walked away with a trophy and certificate and hopes to enter again next year.
