College head under fire over information vacuum

- Stephen Houston

The headmistress of Marr College has come under fire for not replying to letters.

Elaine McGregor- Sloman has been sent three pleas from Troon Community Council which appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

The council is keen to continue to have a Youth Forum as part of its monthly meeting.

Traditionally one or two senior pupils report what is going on.

But the March meeting heard the school has become an information vacuum.

Community councillor Erica Williamson said: “I do feel strongly another letter should be sent.

“We want the school to be represented and someone needs to get their finger out.

“I don’t think she is doing her job properly. It is a community school and she is keeping the community shut out.”

Chairman Helen Duff remarked the pair of pupils who attended last year were “very informative.”

The feeling was if there is no response to this fourth formal letter they will ask for a direct meeting with sixth year pupils.

The meeting heard the lack of response was “rude” and “bad manners.”

Later it was decided to make an appointment to see Mrs McGregor- Sloman rather than complain to the Director of Education Douglas Hutchison.

Frances Carson, chairman of the Muirhead Residents and Tenants Association, said: “Maybe she is not meaning to leave everybody out and she has a lot going on with the new school.

“But she needs to network with the community. This is our school and we are interested in what is going on with our weans.”

Council officer Paul Skully confirmed Mrs McGregorSloman had been heavily tied down with the building project.
