Golfer joins council poll

- Stuart Wilson

Yet another independent candidate is to line up a shot at South Ayrshire Council.

In the year of ongoing people power golf, guru Alasdair Malcolm will stand for election in Prestwick.

He follows a raft of lone rangers riding into battle across the county at the upcoming vote.

And the dad- of- three is pledging to be a “voice for all” if he is elected on May 4.

Malcolm, the much respected secretary of the Ayrshire Golf Association, also spent three decades with the police.

He said: “I’ve lived in Prestwick all of my days and am hugely passionate about the town.

“As an independent I would tackle things issue by issue, rather than being held back by poltics.

“There is far too much infighting under the party banners and people do not get their views heard.

“But I spent 30 years in operational roles with the police so I’d like to think my problem solving is already up to speed.”

Malcolm, 52, a diehard Ayr United fan and member of Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club, sees a bright future for his town.

He said: “There have been a lot of high- profile issues during the last 12 months, such as the state of our beach, the closure of Malcolm Sargent House and the potential development of the former police station.

“Being an independent, I want the chance to help shape what happens going forward.

“It’s crucial for the town to have someone fighting for them on these issues that matter.

“Hopefully I can be that voice for all.”
