Festival kicks off summer with the sound of Silencers

- Michael Reynolds

One of Scotland’s most enduring bands of the 21st century have signed up as the first act for this year’s Burnsfest.

The Rozelle Park festival draws in thousands from around Scotland to enjoy some of the country’s finest music in the beautiful, leafy settings.

And The Silencers, most famous for their 1987 single Painted Moon, will thrill the crowds when the festival returns on Saturday, May 6.

Formed when four Scots met in London in 1985, The Silencers built up a large fanbase thanks to the success of their early singles which earned comparisons to Scots pop legends Simple Minds and Big Country.

They have since released ten albums, building up a dedicated following thanks to their prolific studio schedule and their always energetic life performances.

Critics have hailed the group for “songs that have beauty and melody – but also an emotional edge” and the full range of their talents will be on show when they head to Ayrshire this summer.

Since their debut success, the band have gone on to become hugely popular in France and Spain, despite never tasting major success in their home country.

But that hasn’t stopped the hard- touring band from continuing to win over new fans and thrill old lovers of their music.

Their unique combination of pop, folk and traditional Celtic music make them a perfect choice as the first headliner for this year’s Burnsfest at Rozelle Park.

The free family festival – sponsored by Burns Pet Nutrition and Owen Kerr Signs – will also feature a range of attractions including the A- Coo- Stick Tent, Performance Pokey, Bairns Bunnet, The Mercat, Burns Bar & Wine Garden.

Last year’s Burnsfest was headlined by another 1980’ s pop icon in former Ultravox frontman and Band Aid founder Midge Ure.

This year promises another top line- up alongside The Silencers with some of Ayrshire’s top acts and popular performers from around Scotland set to join the one- day family, friendly spectacular.

Burnsfest 2017 comes to Ayr’s Rozelle Park on Saturday, May 6 between 1pm and 10pm. For more information visit www. burnsfestival. com.
