- Michael Reynolds

Some of Ayrshire’s most talented young musicians thrilled crowds at a sell- out concert.

The South Ayrshire Schools’ Orchestra Concert is a yearly treat, giving talented youngsters the chance to play at Ayr Town Hal.

Around 250 young musicians amazed the audience with performances of much- loved tracks from Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, John Williams’ famous Star Wars soundtracks - and 80s hair metal rockers, Europe.

Performers Naomi Priestnall from Glenburn Primary, Mitchell Lamont from Belmont Academy and Sean Morrison from Queen Margaret Academy all received a special tutors’ award in recognition of their commitment and dedication.

Council education director Douglas Hutchison said: “I know the young people taking part had been practicing for many weeks and this certainly paid off as their performances were first class.

“Last year more than 1,200 children and young people from our primary and secondary schools received musical instruction.

“These concerts are a tribute to our outstanding intstrumental music service and a great way of inspiring our young people to even greater heights as well as building confidence at the same time.”
